Dr. Sara Kuehn, BA MA
Dr. Sara Kuehn works at the interdisciplinary juncture of (art) history, anthropology, theology, religious and cultural studies. Throughout the course of her research she has used photography during fieldwork as a mode of discovery, communication, and (re)presentation. It complements her writings as a dynamic and episodic medium of narrative expression.
The exhibition highlights some of the images discussed in Dr. Kuehn's recent publications and research projects. The photographs were taken in the period 2011-2019 during field research in Bosnia, Northern Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany and France and show different approaches to spirituality and mysticism, including forms of interfaith sharing. At the same time, the exhibition is intended to contribute to ongoing discussions about contemporary Sufism in Europe, a world often unknown to the general public.
